Music Magazine Analysis (Contents) First Mock Up - Individual Post 13

Music Magazine Analysis (Contents) First Mock Up - Individual Post 13

In this blog post, I am going over the analysis of my magazine contents page. In this, I justify what i've done and identify where I should improve for the next draft or even the final piece of my contents page. I wanted to do this as a way to improve and look at my own work and evaluate it and give my self self criticism so I know where I should improve when I come round to edit and finish my contents page. I will be doing this the same as my double page spread in the exactly asme way I am analysing and looking at key factors in my contents page here.

Here is the video of me going over the contents page. I just go over what i've done and why i've done it. If there is any feedback you'd like to provide, then by all means comment!

Music Magazine (Contents) First Mock Up - Task 35

Music Magazine (Contents) First Mock Up - Task 35

Whilst working on my front cover, I went on to creating a mock up idea for my contents page based on the mock up I put up on Indesign. I was inspired by the MixMag magazine contents page so I wanted to do something similar, especially with it being so simple and clear cut.

I kept to the same colour scheme like the front cover, to keep the flow although this won't be apparent as much when it comes to the Double Page Spread. To keep with the flow I used the frequency gage like bars which where used for the anchorage text as content boxes for the pages numbers and information. I added an image of different plug-ins (screen shotted from my computer, since the plug=ins are my own) for the 'reviews' part of the contents. This will be here for now so I can do a better picture for it for my contents. It's just to make space so this will be where the main image for the contents will go. And I added an information part at the bottom of the contents which links to the pug on the front page.

Overall, so far I am happy with how this has come out, and I will be making a few adjustments as soon as possible. Please provide any feedback you have as this can help me majorly! Click to zoom in to see full scale.

Music Magazine (Front Cover) Second Mock Up W/ Progression - Task 34

Music Magazine (Front Cover) Second Mock Up W/ Progression - Task 34

Basing of the feedback given from my teacher, I wanted to use the pictures I took previously and test them out on my magazine front cover. I wanted to keep the same style and design, but simply change the main image to make it more suited in the genre. AS you can see, the model is now wearing a t-shirt which links to the genre or is the style of the genre, where as on the old one it had a school uniform. I also added a vignette to the new image to keep it dark and much more urbanised, and also kept the original textures in the same place previously on the first mock up. I also added a border to 'PORTSIDE ON POINT' so it stands away from the background, like the anchorage text.

To view and compare the differences of the first and second mock up, look at the presentation provided at the bottom. After this draft I will bring myself to the final design basing off all the research which i've implemented within my designs.

Mock Up Pictures #4 W/ IPhone (Double Page Spread) - Task 33

Mock Up Pictures #4 W/ IPhone (Double Page Spread) - Task 33

Progressing from doing shots for the front cover and or contents, I wanted to look on improving the shots for my double page spread. I wanted to have similar shots with similar positions to keep the flow of the magazine and everything which is implemented within the magazine. I am confident that these shots will be implemented within my magazine, as previously stated, they have the effect I want within my magazine, and I can easily manipulate them to suit the genre also.

Mock Up Pictures #3 W/ IPhone (Front Cover & or Contents) - Task 32

Mock Up Pictures #3 W/ IPhone (Front Cover or Contents) - Task 32

From looking at the pictures I previously taken for the front cover, I wanted to take some others which maybe used for the front cover or contents, depending how they come out as a result. Looking at these shot's for the front cover (and possibly for the contents, really depends if I use for the double page spread too) I think these are the shots which I will be using for my front cover. They are exactly what I want and I think link into my magazine genre easily. The shots practically tick the boxes of what I want, and they will go into the development of my magazine.

Mock Up Pictures #2 W/ IPhone (Front Cover) - Task 31

Mock Up Pictures #2 W/ IPhone (Front Cover) - Task 31

By still developing my magazine, I need to keep creating new things which will bring out a better out come. In this case, I have taken new photo's for my magazine front cover. Taking feedback from my media teacher, I wanted to look into what would for the magazine front cover. I am liking how by working in this process, I will come out with a better overall design, by identifying the flaws within my designs then going back to my research and works and making them better. By doing this, I will end up creating the best thing I possibly can, especially for my magazine front cover.

What Makes A Good: Double Page Spread? Individual Post 12

What Makes A Good: Double Page Spread? Individual Post 12

Finally, from looking at my research especially from analysing what makes a good front cover, and contents, I went to look at what makes a good double page spread. From the previous blog post, I wanted to look at MixMag again so I can stay on topic, but I felt like by looking at Kerrang!'s contents, and ATM magazines front cover in contrary to this I want to draw out the similarities and things which make a good double page spread. Here are some of the points which I think make a good double page spread for a magazine, and i will be sure to include them if not be inspired to use the features within my own double page spread, and the other pages relating them to my research. To view the image, be sure to click on it to view it in full screen, or to view the video of the analysis below.

What Makes A Good: Contents? Research - Individual Post 11

What Makes A Good: Contents? Research - Individual Post 11

Looking at my research, I wanted to see what makes a good contents page. I wanted to mix things up and look at a different genre of music magazine. In this I looked at Kerrang!'s magazine contents page. I wanted to draw out the similarities of that from a EDM magazine such as ATM Magazine and MixMag. Like my front cover, I want to make sure by looking at what makes a good contents so I can use the research I have found and implement that within my contents page also. What Makes A Good: Front Cover? Research - Individual Post 10

What Makes A Good: Front Cover? Research Individual Post 10

After looking at research and seeing the benefits of each part in magazines as a whole, I decided to look into what makes a good part of each section within a magazine. In this, I'm looking at what makes a good front cover. I've included some points which I think make a decent magazine front cover effective. With this research, i will make sure that i've implemented them within my own magazine, so that I can come out with the best possible outcome, so that the magazine itself is as effective as the ones which are distributed on the market today. Photoshop Vs. InDesign - Individual Post 9

Photoshop Vs. InDesign - Individual Post 9

In this individual blog post, I wanted to go over the pro's and con's between the programs I have been using for my own magazine creation. I wanted to conduct research and see what makes both programs good and bad for the creation within a magazine, and overall design in general. Each program has their own features, some standing out from others and features which don't match to the other. But each program is as important as they other, so that they both must work in harmony and in an efficient manner for a stronger and better outcome for the creation of the magazine I am doing with both the front cover, contents and double page spread.

Here as you can see, I have made a list of the pro's and con's with both Photoshop and Indesign in a balanced way, both giving 4 pro's and 3 con's about each program. Although they are both essential for the creation of my magazine, I have to determine what to use when I need to do things so if I wanted to do image editing: Photoshop and if I wanted to do magazine layout: InDesign. Questionnaire Results - Task 30

Questionnaire Results - Task 30

This blog entry is about the questionnaires I was asked to create from our media teachers about music magazines. This blog will be going over the results collected over the period of time the questionnaire had been put out for. With the questionnaire results, it gives me a great idea of what people want within a magazine or what they think is good or bad about a magazine in general, and by looking at the results I can implement them within my magazine, and have much more knowledge from people's perspective. Here are the results collated over the time the questionnaire has been up. I have also created a video displaying the results, and go over with what this research has taught me.

Music Magazine (Front Cover) First Mock Up - Task 29

Music Magazine (Front Cover) First Mock Up - Task 29

Here is my first front cover mock up. I have named my magazine 'DRUM FUNK MAGAZINE'. With the research which went into my magazine , I really wanted to show that into my first mock up for the front cover. With myself doing the drum & bass genre, I really wanted to show that with this front cover so far. As this was a quick front cover, it has left patches for me to improve and work on, which I'll be looking forward to encounter and make better throughout my magazine design development.

Here is a video I made regarding the analysis and the creation of what went into this mock up. I decided to create yet another video because once again, I think this is the best way to get my ideas and thought processes out better. Once again, it did not take very long to structure this magazine front cover, so there will be spots to improve. Hope you enjoy! (For the image on the right, click to zoom in)

InDesign Magazine Mock Ups - Task 28

InDesign Magazine Mock Ups - Task 28

Since being introduced to InDesign, i wanted to get to grips in how I wanted to structure my magazine as a whole. Using the documents and the layouts which had been set up within InDesign in the previous blog post, I wanted to get an idea of where the contents of each page would go, and how it would be set out. I wanted to have the similarities drawn from the research I have made with the magazines I have used, so it flows well with the genre I have chosen and doesn't go off on a tangent.

Within this picture I have created, there are 3 layouts, with 4 pages being the front cover, the contents and the double page spread (covers 2 pages). I wanted to show simply where each part of the pages will go, and how the features will be covered with the pages. It gives me a rough idea of where I will put them, and gives me a better understanding without rushing straight into the design, as obviously we need an idea to feed off. Although these are the mock ups, it doesn't guarantee the features I have placed in the final designs will be there, but still a guide for me to look upon.
