Final Magazine (Update Based On Feedback) - Task 45

Final Magazine (Update Based On Feedback) - Task 45

From uploading my initial final magazine, I was asked to correct some things which would benefit the magazine from my media tutor. The main things which needed to be changed was the anchorage text on the front page for the headline, and also the main image for the contents page. Hopefully from this feedback has made my magazine much better, despite the little changes. Here is an overview:

Final Evaluation - Task 44

Final Evaluation - Task 44

Here is my media evaluation. I decided to make it a animated - styled video so it comes across as more appealing but informative. I have put a lot of work into this evaluation going over the questions as best I can, but I am open to change parts and make the overall evaluation the best it can be. I hope you like it, once again feedback is much appreciated.

Music Magazine Pages Mock Ups - Individual Post 23

Music Magazine Pages Mock Ups - Individual Post 23

To show what the magazines look like on a magazine, I have some mock ups which I wanted to use to see how they would look. I think it gives it more of a nice effect, especially to see how they would look overall.

As you can see there are two mock ups. One with part of the front cover and part of the contents, whilst the other has the complete page of a double page spread. It really does make it look really and gives you an idea of how it would look like if it was printed.

If I can find more mock ups, i'll use them. All credit goes to the creators of the mock ups. I hope you like how they look, and also provide feedback if you can, thank you!

Music Magazine Pages Overview - Individual Post 43

Music Magazine Pages Overview - Task 43

Here is an overview of the designs I have done. Here you can scan through the design in a PDF document which i've put up online using a PDF file uploader website known as 'DocStoc'. DocStoc is a site where you can upload personal or business PDF's for viewing from any one or yourself privately.

I have set up 5 pages, one being the magazine front cover, then the magazine contents page, then the magazine double page spread which goes across two pages, then a final overview page. I hope you like this simple presentation, as I think it adds a little more interaction to the magazine in general, and I think it's a nice way to go about it. Thank you viewing this, any feedback is much appreciated.

Music Magazine Pages Analysis - Individual Post 22

Music Magazine Pages Analysis - Individual Post 22

Here is the analysis video of me explaining some of the changes I made through the front cover page, the content page and the double page spread. I wanted to try and keep it brief, as I didn't want to speak a lot and to explain quickly why I made these changes, and what I feel they will represent with what i've done with them. I am really happy with doing these analysis videos as it's made me realise where I can work off, and look at the mistakes i've made and encounter them and turn them into strengths. I think once again the videos have served the purpose of me explaining them in a one-to-one kind of way with the viewer, so that you the viewer can understand what I do with the things I do, and why i've done them (plus I also adding music behind the videos make it a little more fun!)

I really hope you like this final analysis video, and hopefully learned as much as I did, I feel it's really a step into the right direction and I have learned a lot from doing this. Thank you!

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) Final Draft - Task 42

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) Final Draft - Task 42

Finally, here is my final design for the double page spread! I didn't do too much changes from the second draft, apart from changing the smaller image into a circle, as I previously said in the video I think it would look much better that way. I also changed the type size of the quote on the right page to a much taller height, as I think it stands out a lot more on the page, and I think the kernings better the space of the letters work well together also. They are not too close, but they are not to far away for them to be jumbled up.

I am really happy with this also in how it come out. It didn't take the longest to do, but I enjoyed doing it none-the-less. I feel like I learned a lot doing a double page spread, especially it being the biggest page to do out of the two pages. If you would like to see the other two designs, go to the links: 'FRONT PAGE' & 'CONTENTS PAGE'

Thank you for viewing the final design, and I will be creating an analysis video of the pages together, and some mock ups of if the magazines where presented in magazines. Thank you for viewing!

Music Magazine (Contents Page) Final Draft - Task 41

Music Magazine (Contents Page) Final Draft - Task 41

Here is the final  design for the contents page. Once again, after looking at some of the things I went over in my second draft, I really wanted to bring out some changes within the final design. In this, I have changed the colour scheme from yellow once again to flow with the front page and double page spread (to follow after this blog post). I also minimised the numbers for the pages numbers, to take in the size if it would be printed, as it would be much bigger on the page.

I also changed the font for '41' as i think it looks a lot more dynamic and looks really funky as well. I changed the colouring on the anchorage text boxes to white, as I think it stands out a lot more and is much easier on the eye, especially for viewing in a viewers perspective.

Once again, I am happy with how this has turned out, and it met with what I wanted to do. I've learned a lot from doing all of this and I will use the skills i've learned from this and push forward! I hope you like my final design.

Music Magazine (Front Page) Final Draft - Task 40

Music Magazine (Front Page) Final Draft - Task 40

Here is my final magazine front page. After going over the feedback I did, I made changes over the final concept and I am happy with how it's turned out. I have changed the colour scheme to flow with the double page spread as I said I would may change because it wouldn't make sense if I kept one page with red and the others with yellow. I think by using yellow also gives it more of an aggressive feel, in which I wanted to show off within my front page also. Red is more of a destructive and powerful colour and it also works with the colour used on the models t-shirt with the 'RUN DNB' design.

I also adjusted the lighting on the main image, as in the previous one the eyes where slightly dark, and you couldn't really see the eyes. I adjusted the slight vignette around the whole design as I didn't want to make the vignette too dark within the design, I wanted to keep it subtle.

I am really happy with the final outcome and it exceeded my expectation within it also. I will create a video after uploading the final contents page about how this journey has made me realise different things and what i've learned. I will also do an evaluation. I hope you like this final design!

'Portside - Distinctions EP' Creation - Individual Post 21

'Portside - Distinctions EP' Cover For DPS - Individual Post 21

To link into the double page spread and the EP cover picture I put up on it, I wanted to make a blog post on it so it links in more with the artist on it. I mention in a blog video that it didn't take too much work to go around creating the EP cover, as I didn't want to make it the main focus as I needed to work on the double page spread at the time.

I wanted to create something which links to the dark and grunginess side of Drum & Bass, and make it mysterious yet gritty. I think the textures I used really compliments the whole aspect of that, and also the aztec-styled font I used in this. Since the artist I created is in Renegade Hardware, I looked up RH's cover releases and they feature a lot of RH's logo on it, so I wanted to make that the vocal point of the EP cover as well. To view the mini-analysis of the cover, go to this part of the previous 'Double page analysis' here.

I hope you like with what I've created. All rights go to Renegade hardware and the logo/branding. Logo has been used for personal use.

Music Magazine Analysis (Double Page Spread) Second Draft - Individual Post 20

Music Magazine Analysis (Double Page Spread) Second Draft - Individual Post 20

This is the video going over what i've done for the redraft for my second double page spread. Once again like the previous analysis videos, I just go over the slight modifications and the things i've done in this second draft and why i've made this modifications. I think it is a step closer toward my final concepts. Once again, like my first draft, this is great for improvements so I can identify on what I should work on to come out with a much better double page spread and overall design. I really can't wait to see how it all comes out as I'm at the closing stages of the final designs for my magazine pages.  If there is any feedback you'd like to provide, then by all means comment!

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) Second Draft - Task 39

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) Second Draft - Task 39

Here is my second design of my double page spread. I feel I have made changes in this which has led me to a step into the right direction for my overall design in my double page spread, but also the colour scheme within the pages i've used. Simply because of be using red in this double page, and it may dictate what colour I use in the final of them all.

Once again, I will be creating a video on why I've made these changes and specifically what i've added and how i've done it. I think it's better once again to go over my workflow and give reason to why i've done it. So far, i am happy with the development of this double page spread. It is drawing close to my idea and I want to execute it to the best I can. Feedback is always appreciated!

InDesign Magazine Mock Up (DPS Revamp) - Individual Post 19

InDesign Magazine Mock Up (DPS Revamp) - Individual Post 19

Since I changed my overall design for my Double Page Spread from the original idea / mock up I originally made up and in the previous blog posts I made, I said I would do revamp of the mock up to link into the new Double Page Spread design so it flows a lot more and it links more into the magazine. As stated, I wanted to flow with the MixMag magazine style, as it is a lot more simple and easy to structure, and once again much easier to manage.

From doing this, it's made me realise how my ideas will change and shift along the way in this journey of creating a music magazine. Not all my ideas will final even if the first ones are thought of first. It's good to develop and try out to see what works and what doesn't. So in my case, I found out that by not over complicating the double page spread is a lot better as it is easy for me to create and manage. Can't wait to see how it all comes out.

Actors / Models Used Throughout Progress - Individual Post 18

Actors / Models Used Throughout Progress - Individual Post 18

During my progress throughout my magazine, i've done many things which have impacted my progress. Down from location, the prop's, and especially the models used in my designs for the 3 pages. The models have been really important through out the progression of my whole ideas for the magazine pages themselves, so I needed to use the right models in mind that would effect the magazine greatly for me and the whole concepts i've set out to do. So do get the people involved in the magazine I need to ask people from my school to help me out, preferably my class because it was much easier for me to hand it all, and especially since the people who are featured are in media so we are all doing the same thing so we all are on the same page.

People who where used are:

• Kasey Porter - Front Page / Double Page Spread (Producer 'Portside')
• Matt Dutton - Contents Page (Producer 'Matte')

For them to be models, I needed their consent for them to appear on any of the pages, so we discussed and talked about who did what and when. Without these models, it wouldn't be possible for me to create the pages in the magazine and they would be left blank. I'd like to thank them through this and I have thanked them personally for their contribution toward my magazine creation.

Prop's Used Throughout Progress - Individual Post 17

Prop's Used Throughout Progress - Individual Post 17

RUN DNB (white)
So here is the blog post about some of the props used throughout the progress and creation of my magazine. These are all my own props, more or less my own clothes which makes the magazine creation process a little more personal (I guess?).

Hospital Records Crewneck (Navy)
The prop's are and will be used for my front page, contents page and double page spread in my magazine to link into the magazines genre of Drum & Bass. The RUN DNB t shirts link into the genre of Drum & Bass, because of the acronym on the shirt saying 'DNB' which stands for 'Drum N' Bass'. These shirts where from Chemical Records, an internet store dedicated to music fans in the underground music scene which provided things from vinyls, clothing, equipment, etc. Sadly the company had went into administration way back, and hasn't come back since.

Next up is the Hospital Records Crewneck, which is from the prestigious D&B label, led and owned by D&B legend, Tony Coleman AKA London Elektricity. The label has been in effect since 1996, and is one of the most well known and well respected labels in the scene today, producing well known artists such as High Contast, Netsky, Camo & Krooked, S.P.Y and way more. This links into the genre highly, and so it fits into the magazine and it's structure well too.

To view the video of me showing the prop's, look at the bottom of the post. To go to Hospital Records, click the link here. Sadly, Chemical Records is not in a effect any more so I cannot provide any link to the website.

Music Magazine Analysis (Double Page Spread) First Draft - Individual Post 16

Music Magazine Analysis (Double Page Spread) First Draft - Individual Post 16

In this blog post, I am going over the analysis of my magazine double page spread. In this like the last ones, I justify what i've done and identify where I should improve for the next draft or even the final piece of my double page spread, and also explain the feedback i've got from my friends. I wanted to do this as a way to improve and look at my own work and evaluate it and give my self self criticism so I know where I should improve when I come round to edit and finish my double page spread.

Here is the video of me going over the contents page. I just go over what i've done and why i've done it. If there is any feedback you'd like to provide, then by all means comment!

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) First Mock Up - Task 38

Music Magazine (Double Page Spread) First Mock Up - Task 38

Here is my first mock up of my Double page Spread. it's slightly different to what I wanted it to be, because I noticed that a lot of MixMag magazines do this kind of double page spread. I will make a change in the mock up design, so it flows through much better and show's a stronger correlation between my ideas and processes.

But once again, I wanted to create something simple and easy on the eye, and something for the viewer to engage in whilst reading. I really want to draw the similar style of MixMag, as I felt like it was simple to execute and came out much easier to handle, which is why I changed my idea overall whilst creating this double page spread. I feel like the whole structure of it is very nice and i'm happy with how it has come out. The only thing which I feel like I could add is one or two more pictures which I do have, as it looks fairly simple with just once picture on it's own, so I will add another picture into the second or final draft.

I am happy with this progression of the Double Page Spread along with the contents page and also the front page. I can't wait to see how all of it comes off in the end and all the hard work pays off! If any one has any critique then please comment.

Music Magazine Analysis (Contents) First Mock Up - Individual Post 15

Music Magazine Analysis (Contents) Second Draft - Individual Post 15

This is the video going over what i've done for the redraft for my second contents page. I just go over the slight modifications and the things i've done in this second draft and why i've made this modifications. I think it is a step closer toward my final concepts. Once again, like my first draft, this is great for improvements so I can identify on what I should work on to come out with a much better contents page and overall design. This will be the final preparation to my final contents page design which will displayed in a PDF file along with the front and double page spread.  If there is any feedback you'd like to provide, then by all means comment!

Music Magazine (Contents) Second Draft - Task 37

Music Magazine (Contents) Second Draft - Task 37

Here is my second version of my contents page. I changed a number of things I said I would in the video I made in the previous blog post about my contents page. I feel this looks a whole lot better compared to the previous first mock up. I feel it looks a lot simple but in a great aspect, as it looks more simplistic and easy on the eye.

Once again, I didn't want to give my self too much of a task drastically changing the contents page. I wanted to keep true to my idea and pull it off the best I could and hopefully provide a better outcome. I still want to keep to the theme of my front cover, but in the way it is in a more simple and in a contents page form of course.

I will be creating a video on why I've made these changes and specifically what i've added and how i've done it. I think it's better once again to go over my workflow and give reason to why i've done it.

So far, i am happy with the development of this contents page and i'm happy enough with it for it either not to be edited much any more, as it is drawing close to my idea and I want to execute it to the best I can. Feedback is always appreciated!

My Drum & Bass Track Production #3 (Final Prod.) - Individual Post 14

My Drum & Bass Track Production #3 (Final Prod.) - Individual Post 14

So here is the final production for my 'Star Gaze' track. This will be apart of the magazine in relation to the pug / freebie which comes along with the magazine. I finished this a couple of days ago, and tweaked a few things and finally draw it to a close after working on it for a bit of time. I'm happy with the final, but also skeptical on it at the same time, but I'm happy that it is done for me to (kind of) include in my magazine so it provides a lot more interaction with the magazine itself.

If any one would like to provide feedback for me, then that would be amazing so I would know where to pick up from and where to learn and what to do. Hopefully in time to come as i've previously stated i'll be where I want to be soon, but just got to keep doing the little things to get by for what I need to do for making better music.

To hear the track on Soundcloud, please click this link.

Mock Up Pictures #5 W/ IPhone (Contents) - Task 36

Mock Up Pictures #5 W/ IPhone (Contents) - Task 36

Previously doing the shots on the DPS, front cover and a bit of contents, I went back to the drawing board and decided to take fresh pictures for the contents. Since I can't use the model used for my front cover, who will be used in the DPS, I used someone else to be the main picture in my contents page. I want to try out new angles, and perspectives to get that 'producer' look within these shots. I feel the shots came out well and they will be used for the progression and part of my contents page.

To view the image below, click the image to make it bigger. The picture provides what I think are the pro's and con's of the pictures taken, and the analysis is also provided for the image overall.
